From his wife's obit:

Mrs. J. S. Riegel was born in Farmer township, Defiance County, Ohio and died in Hicksville, Ohio, May 1, 1921.

Her girlhood was passed in the vicinity of Williams Center, where she lived until she was united in marriage to Mr. John C. Beechler in August 1872.

To this union two sons were born, E. G. Beechler and R. H. Beechler, both of whom survive her.

Her home was in Oskaloosa, Iowa, from her marriage until 1893, when they went to Colorado. In 1910, Mr. J. C. Beechler passed away and was buried at Akron, Colorado.

She lived in Colorado until 1915, when she returned to Ohio and on Jun 27, 1917 she was united in marriage to Mr. J S. Riegel, in Hicksville, Ohio where they have made their home until the present time.

She united with the Methodist Church in Oskaloosa, Iowa sixteen years ago and was a practical and devout Christian woman. She is survived by her husband, J. S. Riegel, two sisters, Mrs. R. A. Stone, Hicksville, Ohio, and Mrs. T. B. Hall of Salt Lake City; two brothers, A. B. Tharp and O. P. Tharp, and a number of nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of friends; also one daughter-in-law, Mrs. R. H. Beechler.

Rev. John B. Dickson conducted the services, which were at the house, immediately preceding the time for taking the train for Colorado. The services at Akron, Colorado was held at the Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p. m. Rev. George G. Saywell, pastor of the Methodist Church, conducting the services. His text was from St. John, fourteenth chapter, and spoke of the ministry of sorrow in a beautiful and touching manner.

The choir rendered three songs soft and sweet: "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me," "Fade, Fade, Each Earthly Joy, Jesus is Mine," and "Shall We Gather At The River?" A large number had assembled at the church to pay their last tribute of respect to their departed friend. Beautiful floral offerings were given her at Hicksville, Ohio, and here. A beautiful pillow from Mr. E. G. Beechler and R. H. Beechler and wife; lilies from I.O.O.F here, of which E. G. Beechler is a member; Mr. J. S. Riegel is also a member of that order in Ohio; lilies from relatives in Ohio, and other floral offerings by Mesdames Llewellyen and Tudor, and beautiful carnations from neighbors of the Beechler brothers.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lang of Sterling, Colorado, cousins of Mrs. R. H. Beechler, were in attendance.

Interment in Akron Cemetery beside that of her former husband.

Pallbearers were selected from old pioneers, Messrs. Ferry, Farrar, Fischer, Rowland, Dey, and Vance.
