Mrs. Laura "Daphne" Vayda, age 87, of Matthews, NC succumbed with grace to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, April 1, 2011. Mrs. Vayda died at Carrington Place, Matthews after an extended illness.

She was born March 13, 1924 in Roanoke, Alabama the daughter of the late Alvin J. Greene and Cora Turner Greene. She was very proud of her southern heritage and enjoyed years playing with her 6 siblings who included: Catherine Horne, Marion Greene, Al Greene Jr., Charlie F. Greene, Mickey Campbell and Donald Greene.
Mrs. Vayda is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John J. Vayda II; son, Johnny Vayda ; grandson, John Vayda ; as well as all her siblings.
Daphne enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and family time with relatives. She truly never met a stranger and managed to maintain her great sense of humor and love of life throughout her lengthy stay at Carrington Place.
Her devotion to her children and family were always the main center of her life as well as her devotion to God.
