C. J. (Bart) Bartkoviak , 88, died Friday, February 25, 2011. Visitation will be noon until 2:00 p.m., Monday at Morrison Funeral Home of Cherokee with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. J. B. Burns will officiate. Burial will be at Burns Cemetery in Maud.
Mr. Bartkoviak was a loving husband, the best dad a girl could have, a wonderful pawpaw, and was loved deeply by all his family, friends and former students. He was a WWII veteran where as a member of the 514th Field Artillery Battalion he was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. After graduating from Texas A&M University on a GI Bill he had a fascinating career, first at Keesler Air Force Base and then Redstone Arsenal, working on surface to air missiles and teaching soldiers electronic maintenance of missiles. He then had a second career as an instructor at Muscle Shoals Technical College. Bart was a faithful member of the Lions Club, N.A.R.F.E. Association Chapter 233, VFW, Rose Trail Association and Pals.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bartkoviak; daughters, Melissa Foster, Vanessa Breeden, and Marsha Cornelius; grandchildren, Kevin and Rachel Foster, and Anna Grace Cornelius; two brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
