REIDSVILLE - Sarah W. "Billie" Shuman, 89, passed away Thursday morning May, 15, 2008 at the Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville.

Born January 21, 1919, in Hagan, Georgia, she was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and Church worker.

Mrs. Shuman graduated from Claxton High School and shortly thereafter moved to Reidsville and married the late Jim Shuman Jr.

They operated "Shuman Market" for 45 years and she was a key to the success of the business.

She was known for her industrious work and her ability to care for her customer's needs. Their Market was known for their outstanding meat along with the quality service.

She joined the Reidsville United Methodist Church in the late 1930's and was a loyal member of the Tommy Thompson Sunday School Class. She sang in the Choir, served on the Administrative Board, and was actively involved in several committees. She supported the Church regularly until her health declined.

Late in life she became a resident of North Springs Assisted Living in Claxton, Georgia where she and her many friends were very involved in the activities of the home. She was an avid reader and spent many hours in her room in that pursuit. She loved her time there and thought the staff was outstanding. Her time at Glenvue was short but was highlighted by great care and attention by the staff.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Jim Shuman, Jr. her mother, Elizabeth Smith, her father, Alva Smith, and her brother, A.C. Smith. Also a long time friend and employee, Johnny C. "Red" Futch.

She is survived by two sons, Jimmy and Frances Shuman, Daniel and Eva Lou Shuman; brother, Joel Smith; grandson, Jim and Clarice Shuman; granddaughters, Donna Peyton, Gina and David Marshall, and Danette Gore. She also had eight great-grandchildren.
