Benjamin Franklin Sheldon was born in Delaware County, New York, to Jeremiah (1770 - 1837) and Susan Johnson (dates unknown). A veteran of the War of 1812 of a New York regiment, Benjamin m. Lovisa (Rice) on January 22, 1815.

Benjamin is identified by the Sheldon Family Association as SFA No. S6161. He and Lovisa moved to Ohio in approximately 1848 with most their children, and where they lived the remainder of their lives, both passing away in 1870.

While their first child, Nelson, d. in infancy in 1816, Sylphina m. Bradley B. Woodmansee, George m. Jane Lawrence, Benjamin m. Lucy C. White, Ann Susan m. Giles Peter Ripley, David Franklin m. Adaline Crandall, and James m. Adaline West.

The families of Bradley B. Woodmansee, Benjamin Sheldon, Jr., and James Sheldon remained in the towns of LaGrange and Wellington, in Lorain County, Ohio. Descending families include surnames Brouse, Sleeman, Bassett, Johnson (double relation), Moehle, Howk, Rowland, Manning, Riley, Obitts, and Bloomfield.

The other families moved to Michigan in the later 1800's where they eventually settled in Eaton County. They were the families of Giles and Ann (Sheldon) Ripley (Kalamo Cemetery), George and Jane (Lawrence) Sheldon (no children, Munger Cemetery), and David and Adaline (Crandall) Sheldon (Bosworth Cemetery, near Olivet).

By the way, it is interesting to see my photo of the Cemetery sign make a full circle... copied by others and through other genealogical related sites -- it is "OK," just happy it is being used to promote free genealogy. The sign photograph was taken the same day as the headstone photo during my visit to Lorain County in 2004.
