Reta June Adams Blair, age 98, passed away March 26, 2011. She was born June 18, 1912 on a small farm in a five-room log house in Riverdale, Idaho. She was the eighth of 11 children born to Job and Amanda Woolf Adams. Being raised on a farm meant learning to work, to ride horses and to become self-sufficient. The Adams family was not wealthy in a monetary sense, but had an abundance of love, cooperation and common sense, which was instilled into the children. They learned much of the Lord and His ways through parental teachings and example.
Reta married Lyndon Fred Barkle in 1929. They had three children: Reo Lyndon, Beverly Joyce and Marieta. Burley, Idaho was their home for a dozen years, after which Reta and Lyndon divorced. She moved to Spokane, Washington where, in October of 1952, she married Frank C. Blair, a wheat rancher from Eastern Washington. His children and grandchildren were deeply loved by Reta and they adored her. Frank and Reta traveled extensively in their own airplane or by car and camper.
Reta was always anxious to absorb knowledge – knowledge about people, subjects, religion and everything in general. She was very service oriented in her church and community. She has taught or served in Primary, Relief Society and Mutual organizations. Reta has given dancing lessons, housed parolees, taught aerobics and was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren and Frank's. Her planned activities and parties for the grandchildren became cherished memories. She was an avid genealogist. More recently, she served as a member of the Board of Directors of the St. George Senior Citizens Center and was named "Senior Volunteer of the Year" for Washington County after many years of "Greeting and Hugging."
Reta is survived by her son, Reo Barkle (Patty) of Yucca Valley, CA; daughter, Joyce McGregor (Don) of St. George, UT; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a few great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings; her husband, Frank; her daughter, Marieta Petersen; and two grandchildren.
Her family wishes to acknowledge the special care given to Reta by the staff at Ridgeview Gardens Assisted Living Center where she was a resident for more than one and one-half years. She love her "home" and special friends there.
A "living memorial" has already been held by Reta's family on her 96th birthday. She throughly enjoyed the many tributes and memories contributed by her descendants and which were preserved fo her in a booklet. It was her desire to be able to attend her own "funeral" while still living. No other services will be held. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
