David Wilmot LaForce was born at Bedford, Ind., March 31, 1858, and died at his home in this city August 6th, 1902, aged 44 years, 4 months and 5 days. He was the fourth son and tenth child of the late David R. and Elizabeth Campbell LaForce who were among the earliest and most prominent residents of this city, and for upwards of forty years earnest Christian workers in the Presbyterian church of Bedford. His father died in January, 1873, and his mother in July, 1891.
Of the six sisters and three brothers of the deceased, all have preceded him to the grave except two, Mrs. Ellen Ellis and George D. LaForce, who are present today, and with his widow and children mourn his loss.
On October 15, 1890, was united in marriage to Ellen A. Richardson, of this city, daughter of the late Horatio B. and Nancy A. Richardson. To this union was born two children Clara Louisa, born July 11th, 1891, and Wilmot R., born Aug. 22nd, 1893.
The deceased was born and raised from infancy to manhood in this city. He was of a kind, pleasant and agreeable disposition, and readily made friends of all he met. He was a dutiful and loving husband, and a kind and indulgent father. Deceased for years followed railroading, but failing health compelled him to abandon the road work, and he went into the office at this city.
But the Destroyer was upon his path, and after a few years he was forced to forego office work or work of any kind, and resigning his position he sought a new climate and for a time resided in Minnesota. But receiving no benefit from the change he returned to Bedford, and for a considerable portion of the last three years spent his time in the open air with a hope of regaining his last health, or at least staying the progress of his disease. But all was vain. He died in the arms of his loving wife on Wednesday last, loved and esteemed by relatives and friends alike. "Peace to his ashes! Rest to his soul!"
We desire to thank our friends and neighbors for their kind assistance and friendship given us during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father, which works cannot express our appreciation of their kindness in our sad bereavement.
