Funeral services were held last Tuesday at Timber Ridge Assembly of God for John A Autry, 83, long time Broken Arrowan who died in a local hospital.
The Rev. Larry Newton of Thomas Community church officiated. Burial was at Timber Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Christian Funeral Home.
Autry was born June 13, 1904, in Mulberry, Arkansas, to Christopher and Martha Autry. They moved to this area when he was only 10 years old and he attended local schools. He started farming in this area, and worked as a caretaker in the pecan groves along the Verdigris River bottom for several years. He later worked at the Chandler Materials washing plant where he was a foreman.
He married Edna Deatherage in 1924, and they had recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary.
Survivors besides his wife include three sons, Kenneth Autry of Snow, OK., Jack and Lester Autry, both of Broken Arrow, OK.,two daughters, Ruth Medlock of Broken Arrow, and Marie Cleveland of Catoosa; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rilda Holland and Belle Pierce, both of Cherry Valley, Arkansas.
