Kermit, of Concord, was born to Albert and Vera (Scarbrough) Binkley. He passed away on Thursday at his Concord home.

He married Violet Mae Shemwell on February 14, 1948 in Bowling Green, KY.

He is survived by nieces, Sara Lyons of Henryville, IN; Linda (Richard) McLean of Richland, WA, and Janice (Joe) Arnold of Elkton, KY; nephew, Wayne (Mary) Greer of Caribou, ME; and numerous great nieces and nephews; his extended family, Kathryn McKanic, JoAnn Lewis, Mary (Brian) Lewis, Josh (Pam) Lewis and daughter, Grace, all of Concord, and Kristy (Gregg) Conley and daughter Paige of Jackson; special friends Elizabeth Schultz, Dr. Dana Lewis, and Brenda Walters; and a host of good friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his wife Violet of 61 years, his parents and a brother, Curtis (Mary) Binkley, and a good friend Jerry Longman.

Kermit served at Ft. Bliss, TX in the Army during WWII, then received teaching certficates from Western Kentucky University and Michigan State University, where he also earned a masters degree.

Kermit worked at Concord Community Schools from 1954-1986, as a High school English teacher, guidance counselor, radio club advisor and drama instructor. He was active in Jackson County Education Association and the Jackson County Retired Teachers Association. He was a member of the Concord-Pulaski Memorial American Legion Post 81 and the Disabled American Veterans.

He loved photography, to travel, play board games, draw, listen to country music and ham with the "Lunch Bunch".

Service was on March 31, 2011 at the Concord United Methodist Church, Concord on Thursday, March 31, 2011.

Memorials my be given to the Concord Community Schools Art Department, Concord United Methodist Church or the First Presbyterian Church of Concord.
