Obituary - Laketown ~ May 15, 1904
Death visited our end of the valley on Saturday last, the 14th at 7:20 am and took from our society and her loved ones, Sister Charlotte Tufts, wife of Father Josiah Tufts, of Meadowville, Utah. The cause of death was sugar diabetes.
Deceased was native of England, having been born Colchester, March 7, 1833. She immigrated with her parents to Utah in 1854 and resided in Salt Lake City until the spring of 1870. Then with her husband, who had been called to settle Bear Lake valley and moved here in 1860, she cast her lot with our earliest pioneers and endured the vicissitudes and trials incident with those early times.
Sister Tufts was regarded by her neighbors and all that had the privilege of her acquaintance, as a model wife, mother and neighbor and ever true to the Gospel she had espoused in the days of her youth.
She was the mother of two sons and six daughters, two of her daughters preceded her to the great beyond and all the living children are married. With the exception of Josiah Jr. and wife, who are living in Canada, all her children and grandchildren were present at the funeral.
The services were at the family residence on Tuesday afternoon and were presided over by Bishop Ira Nebeker. The Laketown choir furnished appropriate music for the occasion. The prayer was offered by Bishop Isaac T. Price and Elders Joseph Gibbons, Joseph Irvin, Joshua Eldredge and Bishop Nebeker spoke words of comfort to the bereaved family and friends. Benediction was pronounced by Elder George Earley.
At the graveyard the choir sang "O My Father" and the dedicatory prayer was offered by Joseph Irvin. A long line of vehicles filled with relatives and near neighbors and a large number of people of Laketown and Round Valley wards followed the remains to their last resting-place.
Truly one of Utah's and Bear Lake's pioneers and the Lord's noble women has departed this life but the remembrance of her well spent mortal career will ever be cherished by her bereaved relatives, friends and neighbors. And it is beyond question that she will be among the bright jewels counted by the Master at the day of his coming.
The sympathy of the whole community is extended to the sorrowing husband and his family in their bereavement.
