James was the son of Mason F. Fountain. Mason served in COMPANY B, 57th REGIMENT CSA; PVT.; enlisted May 5,1862 . Captured at Vicksburg, Miss. July 4, 1863 . Paroled July 7, 1863 . Exchanged in 1863 . Died at Savannah, Ga. March 7, 1864 .
