Private, Company I, 46th Regiment, Georgia Infantry. Enlisted in Talbotton, Georgia in May 1862 and served with the Regiment until it's surrender on 25 April 1865 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Applied for a Confederate Soldier's Pension in Irwin County, Georgia in 1910.

NOTE: Information on the family pages in Ancestry.com indicate that Silas has a military headstone in the Ocilla Cemetery (shown on this page). Also, that he is actually buried in the Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, Irwin County, Georgia. The records at the Wildwood Cemetery Office do not list Silas at that cemetery, but they say he could still be buried there in the older section. Their records are not complete for many of the older burials.
