Man Dies Here Of Gunshot Wounds
George P. Hinsey, 38, of 1400 Bluff [A]venue, Owensboro, died at the Owensboro-Daviess County Hosptial at 5:40 a.m. Monday, from pistol wounds received when he was shot while visiting in the home of Bill Jones, 50, Cannelton, Ind., early Sunday. Jones, according to Deputy Sheriff Thomas LaGrange, has been lodged in jail on a warrant charging assault and battery with intent to commit a felony. Deputy LaGrange stated Jones refused to make a statement. Hinsey was shot in the chest and arm by a 38 caliber pistol.
Hinsey, who was born and reared in the St. Lawrence community, had been in the Marine Corps for 13 years and received his discharge in April, 1944, after participating in three major engagements and having been reported missing in action in the Solomons.
Surviving Hinse are the widow, Mrs. Pattie Swaggrt Hinsey, 1400 Bluff [A]venue, two sisters, Mrs. Cicero Sanders, Patesville, and Mrs. A. V. Howard, St. Lawrence; a brother, Ray Hinsey, a half-brother, Walter Cartright, Patesville, and a half-sister, Mrs. Ode Carter, Cloverport.
The body was removed to the Delbert J. Glenn funeral home where services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery near Cloverport.
