Capt. William Henry Edwards was Captain of Co. A, 17th South Carolina Volunteers in the War of Northern Aggression, 1861~1865. His memoirs are documented in a book by Robert Stevens titled "Captain Bill", books 1 and 2. He was a well-respected and well-known member of his community at the time.

William Henry Edwards grave showing Confederate Cross of Honor erected by his Great-Great Grandson Webster D. Williams, III in his honor on 5/9/11. Another family member states that a Cross of Honor was there 15 years prior, so it must have been stolen.
