He died in his 88th year. (source: Vital Records of Newbury, MA to the end of the year 1849)
Born about 1598 (aged 40 in 1638), son of John Dummer of Swathling. A miller from Hampshire who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1632 on the "Whale." First settled in Roxbury; moved to Newbury in 1635. Died in Newbury 14 December 1679, in his 88th year [sic].
Married: (1) By 1632 Jane Mason, daughter of Rev. Thomas Mason of Odiham, Hampshire. She must be the same as the wife of Richard Dummer reported by John Eliot; "Mrs. Mary Dummer, the wife of Mr. Richard Dummer," was admitted to Roxbury church as member #57. Eliot describes a wife Mary who came with Dummer in 1632 and died about 1637 when she was a few months pregnant, and this wife must also be the mother of Shubael Dummer, whose mother is called Jane Mason. Perhaps this conflict can be resolved by research in the Mason family in England.
(2) By 1645 Frances _____, widow of Rev. Jonathan Burr; she died Newbury 12 November 1682, in her 70th year.
In 1881 Col. Joseph Lemuel Chester published a thorough study of the Pyldren alias Dummer family of South and North Stoneham, Hampshire, England. "Thomas Pyldrim alias Dommer" had four sons: John, Richard, Stephen and Thomas. Richard was the immigrant of 1632, and after his return to England in 1637 he brought back with him his brother Stephen an d family, along with a Thomas Dummer and Joan Dummer. Chester concluded that this Thomas was nephew of Richard (son of Richard's brother John) and Joan was niece (daughter of his brother Thomas). This Joan Dummer, after her arrival in New England, married Thomas Nelson of Rowley. Some later authorities (including Pope) have held that the Thomas Dummer of the 1638 passenger list was Richard's brother, a position with severe chronological problems. A recently published document unequivocally vindicates Chester's conclusion.
