Dr. Oleriannus Alvin Cover, of Seymour, Ia., a graduate of Baltimore Medical College in 1893 and of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1894, and a member of the American Medical Association, the Iowa State Medical Society, and the Wayne County Medical Society, was instantly killed at a grade crossing on November 28, aged 54 years. (Medical Record, a Weekly Journal of Medicine and Surgery, v. 91, n.1, January 6, 1917, p. 28)

Note: Dr. Cover was the son of Virginia-born farmer and devout Methodist Abraham Cover and Sophia Miller Cover. He grew up in Union County, Illinois, was educated at the Franklin High School and the Southern Illinois Normal School. Before turning to the medical profession, Cover taught school and served as principal of Alto Pass High School for ten years. He married Miss Jessie Llewellyn of Seymour, Iowa in 1898, and they had one son (that I know of), William Llewellyn Cover (b. abt. 1909, Iowa; d. 1993, San Bernardino, Ca.). Jessie died in San Bernardino, California in 1946.

Among his other responsibilities, Dr. Cover was, at the time of his death, surgeon to the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway. According to another account in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Cover was struck by a Rock Island freight train while driving across a grade crossing.
