Euceba Corilla Hanna

Daughter of Hamilton and Gracia Ellis was born in Otsego township, Steuben county, Ind., April 22, 1850. April 21, 1912, on the verge of her 62nd birthday, she fell asleep, at her home in Scott township aged 61 years, 11 months and 29 days.

She has always lived in Steuben county.

October 9, 1870, she was united in marriage with Jacob Hanna and for more than forty years they were permitted to enjoy a happy wedded life. To this union four children were born; one son dying in infancy, and a daughter at the age of three years; two daughters, Retta, now Mrs. Dallas Johnson, and Lydia, now Mrs. Wilbur Berlien, with the sorrow-stricken husband survive her.

Mrs. Hanna was one of a family of four children; one sister and one brother having preceded her to the better land. Besides the husband and children, she leaves one brother, Orlando Ellis, and four grandchildren besides other relatives and a host of friends to mourn her loss.

At an early age she united with the United Brethren church, later she placed her membership in the Methodist Episcopal church; and in Dec. 1899 during revival services held by Elder Hester she with her husband joined the congregation of Disciples of Christ at South Scott where she has since held her membership.

In the work of the church and Sunday school she was unceasingly devoted to her Lord and Master. For twenty years she, with her husband has done janitor service in the house of worship. Few were the services that she was not present and doing her share for the Master. In the church she will be greatly missed.

In the home she was a most devoted wife, a kind and loving mother, a companion which helped father and children over many a rough and weary road. During the dark days she seemed to see through the dark clouds of trouble and sorrow and hear her Master say “All is well.”

During her last illness which has lasted since November she has been a constant sufferer. Few outside the immediate family, realized that she had begun a battle which could last but a few months. Cheery and happy through all, with arrangements made for her departure, with the Master’s great invitation, upon her lips: “Come unto me all ye that believe and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.”
