Evan "Doc" Garrett was born to John H. and Rachel Ann Jones Garrett in Delta,Iowa. He married Alfretta Reed on June 20, 1874 at Springfield, Iowa. They had seven children that survived infancy; Clarence, Ancel, Clara, John Jasper, Nellie Mae, Willie Amos and Minnie Cecil. Doc Garrett was a farmer, laborer, coal miner, and railroad section hand. He lived most of his life in and around Delta, Iowa. He was a member of the Springfield Christian Church.
