HENRY G. NEFF, Alexandria, Huntingdon county, Pa., was born in Porter township, Huntingdon county, March 11, 1833, son of Andrew and Elizabeth (Grove) Neff. Andrew Neff, farmer, his father was born August 20, 1787 in Huntingdon county and died January of 1833 from the effects of a fall from his horse. He was likely first treated at Altoona hospital by Dr. Elmer Neff, MD and then removed to the home of his son Samuel Neff who was living at 3012 Broad Ave. in Altoona where he passed according to his death certificate. His wife Elizabeth Neff nee Grove survived him by thirty-six years.

Henry Grove Neff attended the public schools of Porter township, and studied at Franklin and Marshall College, for one term, being prevented from taking a full course. For one year he taught school, and for two years was clerk for an iron ore company. He then bought a farm which he cultivated for many years; during this time he was justice of the peace for six years, and served as school director.

Henry and his family were members of the German Reform Church, Water Street & Sinking Grove Cong., Huntingdon Co., PA, Alexandria.

Henry married Miss Mary Frances Sprankle on 26 Jan 1860 at the German Reformed Church at Alexandria, Huntingdon Co., PA.

In 1892, he came to Alexandria, where he is now justice of the peace. Mr. Neff is a Republican; he was a candidate for the office of county treasurer in 1890, 1892 and 1896. In 1897, Henry was in the hotel business in Alexandria, PA. Reformed Church record says he lives at Riverside. Their eight children are:
Howard L., who went to Omaha, Neb., in 1882, and is in the livery business;
George, bookkeeper for a firm in Steelton, PA.
Anna Grace (Mrs. W. B. Miller), of Groton, SD.
Mary F., died in infancy;
Charlotte S., at home;
Henry G., traveling salesman at New Orleans, La.;
John Scott and Samuel Reid.
The last two are twins, and live at home.
