Alexander, Jr.'s father, Alexander, Sr., served in the 14th Virginia Regiment during the Revolutionary War with the rank of 2Lt on January 7 , 1777 and the rank of 1Lt on October 4, 1777. In Alex, Sr.'s Last Will & Testimony from March 27, 1803 filed in Stokes County, North Carolina he willed land to sons Alexander [Jr.], John, Aaron, William & Gabriel Moore. Only family heirlooms were left to Alexander, Sr.'s daughters Mrs. Florence Moore Merritt, Sarah Moore Bowles, Mary Moore Ferguson & Mrs. Nancy Moore Martin. Nothing was mentioned for fifth daughter, Elizabeth "Lydia" Moore born in Scotland in 1758 and married John Merritt of Essex County, VA. According to his entry, John owned a farm next to Alexander's farm until 1812 when John & Lydia migrated west.
Old Moore family documents differentiated between Alexander, Jr. with his grandson Alexander (son of William) of Farmington, Missouri by labelling Alexander, Jr. as "long Alex" while his grandson was "short Alex."
Recent research by Moore genealogist in Stokes County, North Carolina discovered Alexander Moore, Sr.'s parents were William & Mary Moore of Amherst County, Virginia. His children so far identified were Alexander [Sr.], John, James, Aaron, and Sarah {who married Harris Toney}. William Moore, had a Last Will & Testimony filed in Amherst County, VA in 1766.
Currently it is unkown exactly where Alexander, Jr. nor his wife Rebecca were laid to rest in Stokes County. If you find documentation of where they were buried, please do leave a message on my profile page, thank you.
