John Z. Treesh died at his home in Geneva, Neb., at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 1929, aged 81 years, 11 months and 26 days. John Zachariah Treesh was born at Millers Town, Pa., May 16, 1847. He was united in marriage to Margaret Miller [nee Acker] October 6, 1870 at Martinsburg, Pa. His wife died in 1923. No children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Treesh but they reared to maturity one boy and one girl. They took into their home Elmer C. Priest when he was seven years old and they took into their home Mrs. Charles Joyce when she was three years old. Both were with Mr. Treesh when he passed away. Mrs. Joyce's home is now at Bloomington [Franklin County], Neb. The boy and girl found a true father and mother in Mr. and Mrs. Treesh and they in return found a true son and daughter in the children they reared. Mr. Priest cared tenderly for Mr. Treesh during the twenty months of his final illness. Mr. Treesh and family came to Fillmore county in the spring of 1887, moving onto a farm near Geneva. Mr. Treesh moved to Geneva in 1909 and this remained his home until the end.

Mr. Treesh joined the United Brethren Church in 1923, and continued a faithful member until his death. The funeral service was held at the Geneva United Brethren Church at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and was conducted by Rev. E. W. Thompson. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery.

“As when the weary traveler gains
The height of some o’erlooking hill,
His heart revives, if across the plains
He eyes his home, though distant still.
Tis there, he says, I am to dwell
With Jesus in the realms of day:
Then I shall bid my cares farewell,
And he shall wipe my tears away.”
