Freeman A. "Mac" McCleary, 80, of Shippenville, died Thursday evening, Aug. 29, 2002, in the Clarion Hospital. Born Oct. 17, 1921, in Salem Township, he was a son of Rodney and Gertrude Phillips McCleary.

Mr. McCleary owned and operated McCleary-Christie Trucking. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1944.

He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. McCleary was the former mayor of Shippenville. He was a member and past president of the Sligo Sportsman Club, the Clarion County Rod & Gun Club and the Fryburg Beagle Club.

He was first married to Bernice Kohler, who preceded him in death in 1968. He later married Ruth Shirey Kohler, who died in 1980. In 1986, he married Doris Cotherman, who survives.

In addition to his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Morris "Toot" McCleary, Robert
McCleary, Lane McCleary and DeWayne "Bully" McCleary; and six sisters, Mary, Louella, Hazel, Geraldine, Laura and an infant sister.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the William N. Rupert Mortuary in Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert McCarty of St. Paul Lutheran Church of
Knox RD officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Union Cemetery, Knox RD 2. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shippenville-Elk Volunteer Ambulance Co., Shippenville.
