Margaret Elizabeth Olmsted passed away Feb. 9, 2006. Margaret was born Dec. 30, 1914 in Charlotte and was a 30-year Leelanau County resident. The daughter of Orrin Edward and Goldie (Mitchell) Packard, Margaret was raised in Charlotte and retired to the north shore of Little Traverse Lake in 1975. A graduate of Charlotte High School, Margaret attended St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and graduated in 1935 from Olivet College, where she was a member of the Soronian, the oldest collegiate sorority in the United States. She worked in the emerging field of radiology in Chicago, and later in Charlotte until she retired in 1962. She was an avid bridge player with Masters Points. Margaret served as treasurer of St. John's Episcopal Church in Charlotte for nine years. She was also active in the Little Traverse Lake Property Owners Association, serving as treasurer for several years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, D. Bruce Carr. She married Arthur J. Olmsted in 1962 and celebrated 38 years of marriage before his death in 2000.

She is survived by: five children, Donald Carr (Polly Webb) of Bradenton, Fla., Charles Carr (Mary Jo) of Schaumburg, Ill., Sara Gedda (John) of Rochester Hills, Craig Olmsted (Karen) of Charlotte, and Roger Olmsted of Suttons Bay; brother, Ted Packard of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Marguerite Cronkright of Port Richey, Fla.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and special friend and companion, Nancy Groesser of Cedar.
