Ray Shatto went home to be with his Heavenly Father on March 23, 2011, at the age of 86.
Ray was born on March 2, 1925, to Clara and Clarence Shatto in Hansen, Idaho. Ray left the farm at age 15 to fulfill his dreams.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Motor Machinist in the South Pacific Asian Campaign on the LST 734.
On March 14, 1944, he married the love of his life, Opal Lela Alice Ghan. He later began a career as an appliance repairman serving the Boise Valley for more than 35 years.
In 1952 he gave his heart to Jesus and was soon called into the ministry. It was his greatest joy to be in service for his Lord, serving as a Pastor, and also in nursing homes, rescue missions, and jails. The highlights of his ministry were pastoring two churches in Idaho, Faith Assembly of God in Boise and the Idaho City Chapel in Idaho City.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; his sisters, Martha Sumpter; Maude Mitchell-Pennington; Darlene Johns; and Allie Geerhart; his brother, Clarence Shatto; and his parents, Clara and Clarence Shatto.
Survivors include his children, Darlene Wilson Vaughan; Gary Shatto; Judy Burton; Jay Shatto; Sherry Shatto; Wanda Staples; their spouses; his grandchildren; great grandchildren; and his brothers, Roy Shatto of Florida and Claude Shatto of Washington State.
A viewing will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Cloverdale Funeral Home. Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Cloverdale Funeral Home Chapel, followed by graveside services at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens, Meridian.
