He was born May 16, 1891 in Port Byron, IL, where he graduated from high school in 1908. In 1911 he was married to Verna Groh, also of Port Byron.
The family moved to Nelson in 1911, where he farmed northeast of town and spent some time as manager of the Farmers Union station. They moved to Omaha in 1940, where Mrs. Armstrong died in 1949.
Surviving are two sons, Leland of Whittier, Calif., and Joe of Sun Valley, Calif., two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Simming of Burbank, Calif., and Mrs. Margaurite Carson of Whittier, 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Burial was made at Port Byron on Feb 6.
