Charles Gustavus Anderson, 69, a long time train dispatcher with the Illinois Central Railroad here, died Sunday morning at St. Francis Hospital following a heart attack. He had been in poor health for the past two years. Mr. Anderson was born February 22, 1883 at Alta, Iowa, the son of John and Mary Mellon Anderson. Mr. Anderson was first employed by the Illinois Central in 1901 as a telegraph operator at Fonda, Iowa. He became a train dispatcher in 1907 and served in that capacity until his retirement January 1, 1952. During World War I, Anderson served as the captain of a railroad battalion in France. Mr. Anderson married Nina Sullivan in Chicago, September 12, 1923, and the family came to Waterloo in 1932. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the American Legion, the Knife and Fork Club and the Illinois Central Train Dispatcher’s Association. He is survived by his wife at home, a brother, John of Alta, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. T. H. Williams of Marcus, Iowa; and a daughter, Mrs. Richard H. Young of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Funeral services are planned for Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Father E. J. O’Hagan officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
