Estherville – A memorial service for Wesley J. Hipple, 81, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Estherville, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 24 in the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estehrville with Reverend David Wendel officiating. He died Friday, December 21 at the United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.
He was born in Estherville on December 20, 1909, the son of John and Ora (Taylor) Hipple and attended Estherville schools graduating from Estherville High School in 1927. He married Vera Hotelling on August 31, 1929 in Spirit Lake. The couple lived in Estherville following their marriage where he was employed by the Rock Island Railroad. From 1931 until 1948, he owned and operated the Phillip's 66 gas station in Estherville. He was then employed by McKay Lumberyard in 1978, was employed as a Chief Technician with the Emmet County Engineer's Office. He and his wife made their home in Spirit Lake since his retirement. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville and the North Star Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Vera, and three daughters: Joanne Georgeff and her husband Dan of Storm Lake; Virgie Wendland and her husband Gene of Lakeland, Mn.; Marlys Swanson and her husband James of Lakeland, Mn. Other survivors include one brother, Harold Hipple and his wife Marna of Denton, Texas; one sister, Ferne Kerr of Estherville; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
