Elisabeth Nebiger, daughter of Barbara (née Buser) and Heinrich Nebiger, was born reportedly in Häfelfingen, Basel-Landschaft, in the German-speaking northern part of Switzerland, and baptized on 22 May 1732 in neighboring Rümlingen. Elisabeth Nebiger married first Johann Jakob Würtz on 22 June 1756 in Rümlingen. Johann Jakob Würtz died and on 18 April 1759 was buried; survived by his wife, and their daughter Anna.

Elisabeth married Bernard Hersperger on 11 December 1759 in Switzerland. The the couple, their six children, plus Elisabeth's daughter Anna, immigrated to America in 1772.

Elisabeth and Johann Jakob Würtz were the parents of:
• Anna (married Conrad Kemp)

Elisabeth and Bernard Hersperger were the parents of six children known to have lived to maturity:
• Heinrich "Henry"
• Barbara (bapt. 8 Apr 1762; married Solomon Kemp)
• Dorothea (bapt. 3 Jul 1763; married John Frederick Kemp, Sr.)
• Elizabeth (bapt. 22 Jun 1766; married Dewalt Young)
• Maria (bapt. 6 Dec 1767; married John May)
• Eve (bapt. 22 Jan 1771; married Michael Runner, Jr.)

Elisabeth Hersperger predeceased her husband Bernard (who died in 1798), and was buried on the family farm near Jefferson, Frederick County, Maryland. When family members were reinterred in Jefferson Reformed Cemetery, her remains were not found.
