MRS. MARY POSTON died Friday Morning, Feb 5 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Blessing of dropsy and heart failure. Mary Herrold Poston daughter of Christopher & Martha Herrold was born in Dover twp., Athens co., OH. Nov. 23, 1817. She was married in OH to John M. Poston, Mar 9, 1837. To this union were born nine of whom survive, namely, John A. Poston of Pinhook; Christopher Poston of Sac City, IA., Elias Poston of Lansing, KS; David Poston of Pinhook, Mrs. William Terwilliger of Mich. City, Mrs. Mary S. Herrold of Sac City, IA; Mrs. Arminta Baxter of Sac City, IA; Mrs. Elizabeth Youngs of Westville & Mrs. George Blessing of near Michigan City. He husband passed away 39 years ago. She came to this county in 1853 & has watched its growth from a wilderness to the present moder conditions. When a girl of 16 years she united with the Methodist Episcopal church and under the most trying ordeals of life she kept her pledge faithfully, & even in her last days when she endured 14 weeks of intense suffering, she found new comfort & blessings in the Ninty-first psalm. She was known as Aunt Polly, no guest was ever unwelcome at her home.
The funeral services are held Sunday at 2 o'clock in the Pinhook Church, conducted by Rev. Broomfield of Westville, after which the flower-laden casket was placed in its final resting place in the Pinhook Cemetery. The following grand-children were the active pallbearers, Frank, Samuel, Byron, Arthur, Clarence, & Walter Poston and the honorary pallbearers were: Charles Baird, Albert Cole, P.H. Baird, Wm., Bunday, M. Standiford & Steve Flynn.
