CHILDRESS, May 26 (Spl). - Funeral services for William Miles Maroney, 77, a Childress County resident since 1927, were held in Calvary Baptist Church Monday with burial here. Maroney, a retired farmer, died Sunday in a childress [sic] hospital. Survivors include a son, Leroy Maroney of Oklahoma City, and four daughters, Mrs. Odis Owens and Mrs. Orville Owens, both of Childress, Mrs. Buford Owens of Dimmitt and Mrs. J.E. Ioor of Amarillo.

Winston Miles Maroney and his son, William Milus "Miles" Maroney were shot. The injury to Winston was fatal. Miles was shot in the groin and they expected him to die also, but he survived. They were shot by Winston's nephew, Al Maroney. Al was later apprehended and was charged with murder and attempted murder. He was convicted and sentenced to eight years.
