Mrs. Bernice Currie, age 81, of Kennard, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 at her residence. She was born January 24, 1930 in Conroe, Texas and had lived most of her lifetime in Kennard. Mrs. Currie was a housewife and enjoyed quilting. She attended the Methodist Church.

Survivors include children, Martha Childs and husband, George of Kennard, Roy Currie and wife, Sharon of Porter Springs, Ovie Currie and wife, Loretta of Porter, Mary Christian and husband, Charles of Hardin, Delta Stites and husband, Tommy of Conroe, Teresa Mullane of Montgomery, John Currie, Jr. and wife, Linda of Kennard, Rick Currie and wife, Teresa of Wells, David Currie of Kennard, Buford Currie and wife, Betty of Kennard, grandchildren, Nikki Orsak, Rhonda Alfred, Jennifer Reynolds, Aimee Meshell, Aaron Currie, Chuck Christian, Brandon Stites, Matthew Thomas, Ricky Currie, Peggy Currie, April Currie, Scott Currie, Sandie Currie, Joshua Currie, Randy Currie, Danny Currie, Sean Rogers, Christopher Bernard, Michelle Spigle, Kelly Stites, Tim Stites, Tommy Stites, Jr. and Brandon Taylor; thirty five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Ovie Young and wife, Claire of Conroe, Eunice Weeks of Conroe, Olee Teague and husband, Eulray of Brady, John Harvey Young and wife, Sue of Lufkin; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Preceded in death by husband, John A. Currie; grandchildren, Catherine Flanagan, Karen Kostura, Michael Currie and Stephanie Stites; great-grandson, Peyton Currie; parents, Roy and Josephine Young

Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice Currie will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Larry Bruce officiating. Interment will follow in the Corinth Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice in the Pines 116 South Raguet, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, attn: Brenda Rubio, 815 Market Street, Galveston, TX 77550-2725.
