"First Citizen" of Denver, Colorado. Responsible for the open planning in the city of Denver, Cherry Creek, Stapleton Airport, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Winter Park Ski Resort, the Denver Symphony, Highway 25 along the Front Range, the tunnel system to bring water from the Western Slope into Denver, and so much more.

George E. Cranmer was born in 1884 in Denver. He grew up in a ranching family and developed a love for outdoors, which would come to define his career. Cranmer left Colorado for a short time when we attended Princeton but returned promptly after to invest his own money to start a brokerage firm. The firm lasted through the 20's but was liquidated in 1928 when Cranmer had a disagreement with his partner.

This led to a career change for Cranmer; he decided to enter into politics. In 1935, he led Ben Stapleton's campaign for mayor and once Stapleton was elected, Cranmer was appointed Manager of Parks and Improvements, at which time he took full advantage of his position. One of the staples of his time as Manager of Parks and Improvements was the construction of the Red Rocks Amphitheater. Cranmer recognized the acoustic potential of Red Rocks and spear-headed the project on a budget. He was also the driving force behind the creation Winter Park, lighting the streets and purchasing land to expand the airport.
