When her father was elected Governor of Kansas in 1893, Jessie accompanied her father to the state capitol in Topeka while the rest of the family remained at home in Wichita. Jessie served as the Governor's official hostess during his term in office.
Jessie later took a job as a newspaper writer in Chicago, Illinois, and on 23 Jul 1902, she married Henry L. Call there at age 29. The marriage soon ended in divorce. Jessie died in
Chicago on 19 Apr 1908 at age 35.
