Frank J. Blaine, the well known druggist, died Friday morning at his home on West William street as a result of a stroke of apoplexy which he suffered on Thursday night. Mr. Blaine never recovered consciousness. The news of his death was a shock to many acquaintances who had seen and conversed with him the evening before and to all appearances, he was in excellent health. Mr. Blaine was 57 years of age and was a native of Indiana. He came to this city from Goshen in 1867 and for a time traveled for a Peoria drug house. In 1878 he was married to Miss Aurelia Culver and soon after he moved to Lake City where he was engaged in business for a time.
In 1884, he returned to this city and opened a drug store on East Eldorado street, just beyond the Illinois Central. After five years in that section of the city, he moved his business up town occupying his present room but afterward moving to the room next to the old Opera House. When that building was wrecked a few weeks ago, he moved back to the old stand. He had been in business on the same block on North Water street for the past twelve years. He was one of the oldest druggists in the city and had a wide personal acquaintance. During the time he was a resident of Indiana, the civil war broke out and Mr. Blaine enlisted in the 100th Indiana volunteers and served for three or four years. He was a member of the Dunham post of this city but did not belong to any other organizations. He is survived by one brother, Joseph Blaine of Ottawa, Kansas and two sisters, Mrs. Theodore Nelson of Chicago and Mrs. Jessie Yocum of Monticello.
