Funeral services for James "Bus" O'Brien, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (today) at'First United Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev. Bill Reed officiating. He died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996, in a Wichita Falls hospital.

Born December 3, 1909, in Fort Worth, O'Brien had lived in Olney since 1925. He and Nola J. Hewett were married October 3, 1937, in Olney.

O'Brien was a 1929 graduate of Olney High School and attended Texas Christian University. He worked for Petroleum Producers and Shell Oil Co., later becoming an independent oil producer. He was City Manager for the City of Olney from 1960 to 1977. He was still serving as City Registrar for Vital Statistics.

A member of First United Methodist Church, he was a past member of its Board of Stewards. He was a past member of Masonic Lodge #790 where he was a Past Master.

An avid sportsman, O'Brien in earlier years was one of Olney's first Little League coaches, had refereed football games and was a past member of Olney Quarterback Club.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kitty Lynn O'Brien July 12, 1945.

He was the brother of of Robert Edward O'Brien (Find a Grave Memorial # 90588203), Jack G O'Brien (Memorial # 89539925), Letha Gay (O'Brien) Donoho (Memorial # 90527499) and Verna Lee (O'Brien) Clark (Memorial # 496218).
