SAM J. ALEXANDER DIED AFTER LONG ILLNESS THURSDAY

Prominent Reidsville Citizen,70 Years Old,Was A Mail Carrier


Samuel J.Alexander,70 years of age, died at his home last Thursday morning after an extended illness.

Mr. Alexander was a mail carrier and in his early days practiced dentistry in this section.

He was the son of the late Asbury Alexander and Carolina Brewer, pioneer citizen of Tattnall county.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maude Phillips Alexander of Reidsville; six step sons, Zeke Wedincamp of McCormick, S.C., Frank Wedincamp of Atlanta, Harry, Herbert, and Joe Wedincamp of Shellman Bluff, Saxon Wedincamp, Norfolk, Va.; one step daughter, Mrs. Gladys Resotka, Cedar Knolls, N.J. and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Friday from Reidsville Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. T.H. Thomson, pastor of the Reidsville Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. H.M. Overstreet, pastor of the Reidsville Baptist Church. Burial was in the City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were C.G. Alexander, Jesse Lynn, Dr. Harvey J. Strange, W.B. Baxter, J.H. Alexander, J.P. Rabun, Honorary pallbearers were J. Henry Kennedy, Joshua Beasley, Rushin Watkins, L.H. Wilkes, R.N. Odum, M.W. Eason, S.C. Rogers, Sr., L.R. Nelson, C.L. Cheney, F.L. Beasley, J. Cliff Kennedy, Emerson Smith, Jack Alexander, J.U. Tippins, David Todd, J.K. Wilkes and D.L. Stanfield.
