Served in the Company E 29th Pennsylvania Regiment Volunteers in the "War of the Rebellion". Was captured and held by the Confederates at Liby Prison for three months. Served from 8 July 1861 and honorably discharged on 17 July 1865. John Humes is listed in Bates History book. His parents were Thomas and Mary Humes and had five brothers and sisters. Jane, Martha, Thomas, Mary Anna, and James.
