Anna Louise Coyner, 96, of Springfield, formerly of Webster Groves, Mo., died Sunday, March 20, 2011, in Quail Creek in Springfield.
She was born June 14, 1914, in Muscatine, Iowa, a daughter of Clyde and Minnie Burkhard Leach. On Nov. 24, 1938, in Muscatine, she was married to Mark William Coyner, who died March 16, 2002.
Mrs. Coyner was a 1932 graduate of Muscatine High School in Iowa. She received a bachelor of science degree in English from the University of Iowa in 1936. During World War II, she took over her husband's pharmaceutical territory in Missouri and Illinois, in order to secure his job after the war. She was a business manager for a dental office in Webster Groves for more than 20 years. She also was a realtor and a church organist in Fenton.
She became a member of Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity, Chapter Alpha Omega, in college. In 2010, she was one of 28 sisters to receive the white violet charm for 75-years of membership. She also was a member and past worthy matron of Order of Eastern Star, Webster Groves Chapter 64 and a member of First United Methodist Church in Webster Groves, King's Way Methodist Church in Springfield, Chapter KT, P.E.O. and the Springfield Computer Club.
She lived most of her married life in Webster Groves. She moved to Springfield in 1996. She loved to travel, antiques, music, reading, listening to books on tape after she lost her eyesight, flowers, and bird watching. She loved dogs and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved attending family gatherings and taking her grandchildren to Grant's Farm in St. Louis.
Surviving are two children, Martha Jane "Marty" Carson, and her husband, Kit, of Springfield, and R. Thomas Coyner, and his wife, Penny, of Issaquah, Wash.; a brother, Robert Leach, of Ballwin; five grandchildren, Latisha Koetting, of Sedalia, Michael Coyner, of Montgomery, Ala., Wendy Lissau, of Tulsa, Okla., Angela Stenhouse, of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Christopher Carson, of Springfield; 11 great-grandchildren; two nieces; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Southwest Missouri Humane Society, 3161 W. Norton Road, Springfield, MO 65803.
