Edna's mother died within a month of her birth, leaving her father with two young children. At the age of four, Edna's father being unable to care for her alone, gave guardianship of her to a family in Exeter, Maine. They were John Lawson Pease and his wife, Mary (Tibbets) Pease. She was living with them in 1880 and is listed as their adopted daughter, but she was not legally adopted until the age of fourteen in 1887. (Penob. Probate Record vol 38, p.137) According to her adoption papers in the Penobscot County Courthouse, she gave her own consent to the adoption. She attended school in Exeter. After her marriage, she lived in Exeter until 1893, when the family moved to Portland, Maine where her husand, Myron was a traveling salesman for a wholesale Produce Company. Edna died shortly after the birth of her fourth daughter.
