He enlisted in Company K of the 12th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry(Official Roster of Ohio Soldiers, Volume 3, p. 100, hard copy) and was transferred to Company E, 23rd Regiment, July 1, 1864. He was captured at the Battle of Winchester, Virginia, July 24, 1864 and died as a prisoner of war at Danville, Virginia. He should not be listed as "mustered out." Dead soldiers were never "mustered out." Be advised that his father's pension application card incorrectly stated that Adam served in Company K of the 23rd Regiment. It was Company K of the 12th Regiment. The Official Roster shows his age at enlistment as 18 in 1863, making his year of birth as 1845.
