Founding partner of the Ives, Blakeslee & Co. Toy company in Bridgeport, CT in 1869 with brother-in-law Cornelius Blakeslee and John Joseph Mott, manufacturing gear run mechanical toys. After the unexpected death of John J. Mott in 1878, the company was reincorporated with a new partner as the Ives, Blakeslee & Williams Toy Co., which became famous for its toy trains. In 1931 Ives, Blakeslee & Williams went bankrupt and was bought by Lionel Toy Co., which became famous for the toy trains originated by Ives.
