John L. Alexander, 84, of Tuscola passed away at 9:20 a.m. Thursday (March 17, 2011) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

He was born on Sept. 12, 1926 in Fairmount to Albert Clifford and Mary Bryson Alexander. He married Betty Wetzel on April 17, 1949 in Tuscola. She preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Eric Albin.

Survivors include his children, Kathryn (Dale) Albin of Tuscola, Nancy (Thomas) Hawkins of Kansas City, Mo., Dan (Barbara) Alexander of Tuscola and Laura (Dwayne) VanCleave of Tuscola; nine grandchildren, Monica Cruzan, Tomi Mattick, Noelle McNutt, Michael Hawkins, Carson Alexander, Marcus Alexander, Kendall Alexander, Jessica Miller and Michelle VanCleave; seven great-grandchildren, Blake, Braxton, Lila, Elin, Kaleb, Theah and Vale; a brother, Clifford (Dorothy) Alexander of Danville and special friend, Leona Humphries of Decatur.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
