William Lee Brumley was born on 11 May, 1895 in Cabell, Wayne County, Kentucky to a man with the last name of Lawson (we believe his father was James Franklin Lawson) and Lucinda Honey.

When William was six years old, his mother was married to a man named William Sherman Brumley. William then adopted his stepfather's name; Brumley. It's likely that William Lee Brumley never knew his biological father, and probably thought that William Sherman Brumley was his real father.

On 2 December, 1917, in Wayne County, Kentucky, Bill Brumley was married to Doisha Clemmie Brown, daughter of Cicero and Rebecca (Neal) Brown. They were married for 65 years, their marriage commencing at the death of Doisha in 1982.

William, Doisha and their children moved to Jacksonville, Illinois in the 1930s. William died their on 2 November, 1983, aged 88 years.

Doisha and William had five children: John, Ellen, Lillian, Essie and Evelin.
