He was the son of Daniel & Harriett (Layman) Clary. He, with his parents, made the journey to Missouri about 1838 and settled in southern Lafayette County.

Married Eliza Ann Lawson, 8 Dec 1854, Missouri.

CIVIL WAR-CONFEDERATE; he enlisted as a Sergeant in Co F MO 5th Cav. Reg.

He was the father of 13 children.
