The funeral services for A.E. Echols, whose death occurred in Anniston recently, were held at Old Armuchee, in Floyd County, Georgia, and the following news story appeared in The Rome News regarding Mr. Echols' death and burial:
"Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the church at Old Armuchee, for Austin E. Echols, age 73(?), former Roman. The Rev. J.P. Craft conducted the services and interment was made in the Old Armuchee Cemetery.
"News of Mr. Echols' death caused a great deal of sorrow to his many friends here. He was born and reared in Floyd County, and it was with much regret that those who knew him saw him go to Anniston, Ala., to make his home. He had been living away from Rome for about 12 years.
"Last Thursday he underwent an operation in Anniston, from which he died about noon Sunday. He possessed a gentle disposition, and in his passing away, many have lost a true and loyal friend.
"Surviving Mr. Echols are two brothers, J.V. Echols, of Rome, and A.E. Echols, of Armuchee, and one sister, Mrs. Elle Freeman, of Jefferson, Texas."
