Garland Anderson was the second of ten known children of William N. Anderson (1800-1860) and Eleanor Claisen Bronaugh (1809-1860), who married 27 Mar 1828 at Christian County, Kentucky. The family lived at Crawford County, Missouri in 1850 and Maries County, Missouri in 1860.

Graham married the widow Martha Ann McDaniel Graham (1841-1909) on 03 Dec 1868 at Tulare County, California. Martha had previously been married to John H. Graham (1836-1866) on 28 Jan 1858 at Lamar County, Kentucky and they had three children. Graham and Martha were the parents of four known children, namely:

1. Clementine McDaniel Anderson (1869-1960)
2. Robert Marion Anderson (1874-1961)
3. Ella Anderson (1876-1949)
4. Tipton "Tip" Anderson (1879-1973)

In 1860 Graham was working as a laborer at Volcano, Amador County, California. In 1880 the parents and all four Anderson children were living at Kaweah and Mineral King Township, Tulare County, California with Garland listed as a farmer. In 1900 the widow Martha was living at the City of Exeter, Tulare County, California listed as a land-lady. Her daughter Ella and her family was living with her. Garland had come to Placerville, California from Missouri in the Gold Rush days. Later he hauled freight to Visalia. He lived in Yokohl Valley, Tulare County, California.
