Robert Lee Smith, 77, of St. Marys, GA passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Magnolia Manor St. Simons.
A memorial service will be held at 4 pm Saturday, March 19, 2011 at St. Marys United Methodist Church, 106 E. Conyers Street St. Marys, with Reverend Dale Thornton officiating.
Mr. Smith was a native of Soperton, GA and was born November 7, 1933 to the late Mr. & Mrs. Morris Hinton & Clyde Johnson Smith.
He was a former resident of Atlanta, GA and had resided in St. Marys for sixteen years. He graduated Soperton High School in 1950 and Mercer University in 1963. Mr. Smith began his 43 yr. career at AGL Resources/Atlanta Gas Light Co. as a Meter Reader and retired in 1995 as Purchasing Manager. He was a member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family. He leaves behind many legacies and fond memories that will be missed by all.
Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 55 yrs., Joyce Smith of St. Mary's; two children Kevin Smith (Carla) of Marietta, GA; Allison Warbington (Ken) of Social Circle, GA; granddaughter Michelle Warbington of Statesboro, GA; sister Murl Thigpen of Eatonton, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.
