Louisa Mildred Thomason was born July 17, 1848, in Ouachita, Arkansas to Berry William and Nancy Wall Thomason. After arriving in 1860s Texas with her family, she met Hugh White. In August of 1871, they were wed in Lamar County, Texas, with their son, Oscar arriving on May 12, 1872. Louisa was widowed when death came early for Hugh. Although a death certificate has never been found, it's presumed Hugh may have died from electrocution. Great-granddaughter Ruth White was told she had a grandfather that died after being struck by lightning.
In 1876 Louisa married James Newton Cox in Fannin, Texas. To the union four sons were born; Berry A. Cox, James F. Cox, Claude M. Cox, and Eugene E. Cox. It's assumed Mr. Cox was a wonderful father to Oscar, evident by Oscar giving his son Ralph, Newton as a middle name.
James and Louisa remained husband and wife for fifty-two years until his death on May 1, 1928. Her death came at the age of 81, on September 22, 1929.
