Butte, Mont.--Mrs. Alfareta Rumley Sanders, wife of Maj. J.G. Sanders, deputy United States marshal, died here Aug. 30. Mrs. Sanders was one of the most prominent women of
Montana, and was a pioneer of the state, coming here in company with her father in 1865, from Brooklyn, New York, where she was born. Mrs. Sanders was 62 years old at the time of her death and until a few days ago was apparently in good health.

She was a member of the Society of Montana Pioneers and took an active part in the affairs of the state. She was married in 1868 to Major Junius G. Sanders and leaves in addition to her husband four daughters, Mrs. Frank C. Stuphen of Helena, Mrs. G.W. Nevin of Los Angeles, and Misses Clara and Julia Sanders of Butte; and two sons, Junius G. Sanders, Jr., of the United States Navy, and Charles R. Sanders of Pullman, Wash. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. W.H. DeWitt, wife of former Justice DeWitt of the supreme court of Montana, now of Auburn, New York; and Mrs. H.A. D'Achuel of Los Angeles.
