He was a principal, teacher and coach at the Pearland School in the 30's and 40's. He went by "H.L.", but kids called him "Hard Luck" McAninch.

He must have been in pretty good shape in his day; he used to hold a stick with both hands out in front of him and then jump over the stick. That is not a small feat to accomplish at all although it looks like it should be simple and he would chide and challenge the school kids for not being able to do it.
